The Potting Shed

After spending a lot of time at the computer and working in my studio last week, it was great to get outside and do something different....not exactly gardening, though I did do quite a lot of that too...but cleaning out and painting the inside of the little potting shed at the bottom of our garden...
It was sunny, as you can see but soooo cold - my hands were freezing when I was painting! After the new coat of white on the walls and a coat of blue green from farrow and ball on the bench I was very pleased with the fresh clean look...
The little blue birdhouse was painted by my sister for me a few years ago and I love it - so that went straight back in when the walls had dried...Lots of unwanted things which had been put in there were disposed of, and clean pots and tools came back in and were stacked ready for use again...
...and the seed packets stored in their special little container (a present from one of my daughters), are ready for the planting days to begin...
I was glad to get this job done. The next one is to paint the outside of the potting shed - but it will have to wait for much warmer weather!! The little picture below is a book illustration I did a few years ago - showing a fanciful shelf in an imaginary potting shed - I find the subject very appealing and have often drawn and stitched it!
Just before I go I would like to say a big thank you to Gill for giving me the Stylish Blogger Award last week! Although I have received this award twice already I'm delighted to accept it again, so thank you, I do appreciate it! Do go and visit Gillyflower - it's such a pretty blog and full of lovely pictures (and a giveaway at the moment too!)
Thank you so much for visiting me here and for your lovely comments. I hope you had a lovely weekend, and wish you all a wonderful week - with lots of sunshine and if the temperatures where you live are still a bit chilly - keep cosy too! xxx

Wow! Our shed doesn't look anything like that and our potting bench is a scruffy dark brown one outside the shed as no room inside! Yours could be in one of those Country Living books now!

Dear Helen, you're an inspiration! I have a shed out back that has had many incarnations. Tool shed, play house, art studio, teenager's "room", now it's full of boxes and a storage shed. I want to empty those boxes and make it pretty again! You've given me the impetus. Thanks!

Well done you! - it looks fab, like a mag pic! And will it stay as clean and pretty as that? I've already sown lots of seeds - cosmos, peppers, morning glory, etc. I love seeing them grow :) Have a lovely week.

Gorgeous Helen, how much lovelier does it look with a fresh coat of paint?! I love all your rustic wooden trug too and of course your little seed box is lovely too! We are (hopefully) moving house soon, and there is a brand new orangey-brown shed in the middle of the garden - I am definitely feeling a lick of paint will be needed! Hope we get some warmer weather too, can't wait to start planting little bits and sitting out in the sun! have a great week xxx

I tidied out the shed on Saturday - but it's still brown and looks (unfortunately)nothing like yours!
However, things are back in the right place and at least I can find what I'm looking for.
You can have the 'best shed award' to go with your other accolades!Lovely sunny day today - yippee!

Helen, that is a lovely spot for a potting shed. I just love it. Looks like so much fun to putter in there. Wonderful painting job! Not too much fun to paint when it's cold though. Have a great week and I hope your cold turns to warmth. xoRobin❤

Helen, what a fantastic job you've done on your potting shed - it lokks like something out of country living magazine!
It never ceases to amaze me how much change can be effected by a coat of paint.
Love the bird box and seed tin - your shed will be as pretty as the painting you did with those pretty accessories - do you think you will do a painting of yours when its all finished?
Thanks for the mention in your post - I'm so glad you accepted the award even though you already had several, yours is such a beautiful blog!
Have a great day Helen - the sun is shining here, hope it is where you are too!
